The revival of an ancient art
Since ancient times Bulgaria has been a crossroad for many ancient peoples and
civilizations. Because of this, the country is rich in archeological treasures. Here were
found the oldest gold, worked by a human hand more than 3000 years ago, the richest
silver treasure in Europe - the treasure of Rogozen and the masterpiece of the jewelry
art - the golden treasure of Panagyurishte. The ancient inhabitants of the Bulgarian
lands, the Thracians, did not have writing and maybe because of that they expressed
their deep emotions through toreutics. It is a mixture of Hellenic, Achemenidian,
Scythian, Egyptian and Hittite art. It is the living bridge between past and modernity.
15 years ago an idea occurred to me to revive the tradition of this mysterious craft -
toreutics in order to be created new pieces of art made of gold, bronze or silver in the
same splendid style.
